About armadillo

Their short legs enable them to move quite quickly. They measure about 75 cm, including the tail. Their armor shells are made of leathery plates, which have sharp, long claws for digging.

It has been suggested that armadillos are the descendants of a genus of giant armored mammals known as Glyptodonts that split about 35 million years ago, which is much more recent than previously believed.

As part of their diet, armadillos dig and find food with their claws, and dig burrows to live in. Even though they have five toes on each foot, they only dig a burrow the width of their bodies. The epidermal skin plate, whether made of bone or covered in horn, consists of short, overlapping scales of dermal bone.
