Some information about banana

Biologically, the banana is a berry which means that it is a long-term edible elongated fruit produced by herbaceous, flowering plants with the genus Musa. In some countries, bananas used in cooking are known as "plantains," distinguishing them from dessert bananas.

Fruits are elongated, curved, and vary in size, color, and firmness, but when ripe, they are covered with a hard rind that is green, yellow, red, purple, or brown. They grow in clusters from the top of the plant.

Musa acuminata, Musa balbisiana, and Musa * paradisiacal are the scientific names of most cultivated bananas, depending on their genomic constitution. The old scientific name, Musa sapientum, is no longer used for this hybrid.

Indomalayan and Australian Musa is native to Papua New Guinea, where they are likely to have first been domesticated. Approximately 135 countries grow bananas for their fruit, as well as to produce fiber, banana wine, and banana beer, and for ornamental purposes.
