 International day of yoga

A celebration of Yoga day is held every year on 21 June since 2015, following its introduction in the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2014. Yoga is an Indian physical, mental, and spiritual practice.In his UN speech, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested the date 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.

Indian Permanent Representative Asoke Mukherji introduced the draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 2014. The resolution received broad support from 177 sponsors who called for its adoption. 177 nations co-sponsored this resolution, the highest number of co-sponsors ever for a UNGA resolution of this nature.
