Jack-o'-lanterns (or jack-o'-lanterns) are carved pumpkins, turnips, or other root vegetables that are associated with Halloween. The name of this phenomenon comes from the occurrence of strange lights flickering over peat bogs, which are called will-o'-the-wisps or jack-o'-lanterns. Jack-o'-lanterns are carved from pumpkins each year for Halloween; the tradition originated in Ireland where a drunkard with an ill fate bargains with Satan and is tormented to roam the Earth with only a hollowed turnip for light.
Jack-o-lanterns carved from pumpkins are an annual Halloween tradition brought to the United States by Irish immigrants.

Diyas, diyos, deyas, divaas, deepams, and deepas are clay oil lamps with cotton wicks dipped in ghee or vegetable oils. Indian diyas are used during festivals such as Diwali and Kushti, which are religious festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians.
Clay Diyas are often used temporarily as lighting for special occasions, while brass Diyas are used permanently in homes and temples. During Diwali, diyas or candles represent enlightenment, knowledge, or wisdom. They are a part of Indian culture, as sakshi for auspicious reasons, as well as symbols of light. They are also used as decoration during the festival of lights - Diwali. Traditionally, Indians light a diya every morning and evening.
