Who is Plankton

Plankton is a fictional character of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. He is a planktonic copepod who runs the Chum Bucket restaurant with Karen, a waterproof computer who is his sidekick and wife. The Chum Bucket is not very popular in Bikini Bottom because it serves chum, which is bait made from fish meat.

The two main villains of the franchise are Plankton and Karen, but Plankton also appears in several episodes as a sympathetic antihero. It is Plankton's main objective to steal Krabs' secret recipe for Krabby Patties in order to put Krabs out of business. In order to achieve this, he would seek to run Mr. Krabs out of business. Karen has several creative ideas for how to take it, but their efforts are always unsuccessful.

A show writer, Mr. Lawrence voiced Plankton. Plankton and Karen were originally intended to be one-time characters, but Lawrence wrote them into many episodes and proved that they could work as the show's main villains. They first appeared in the episode "Plankton!"
